Model

Here's the model. I still have to add the little tail thing, but now I can start rigging and or layout. I still need to tweak some stuff on my bird rig. My buddy Alfredo is modeling my tree. A big thanks to him!

Oakland Museum

So our class took a trip to the Oakland Museum the other day. I would have to say that drawing stuffed animals is not as fun as watching and sketching live ones. Being that the animal is still makes it easer to draw, but one thing it does not give you is that sense of life and vitality from a live animal. Where as an animators we should try to capture the essence of an animal, we are not going to get that from a stuffed animal. But if you want to learn the structure and anatomy of animals, I think it helps.

It is hard for me to break away from drawing realistically when drawing from observation. Usually I only break this habit when I’m drawing people on my own in my sketchbook. Sometimes I have to force myself to start making decisions to push things further when drawing from life. Throughout most of my schooling we have been told to draw more realistically and in return we develop certain habits. Hopefully some day I can merge the structure of realism and the exaggeration of caricature and cartooning into my drawing.
